Early Childhood

Thank you to all the parents and speakers that came to Early Childhood to discuss - SUMMER FUN! We had speakers from the KROC Center, the YMCA, the Quincy Public Library and the Quincy Park District! Each agency handed out schedules, calendars and information about all the fun activities that are available to the entire family during the summer. If you could not attend this morning that's o.k., as we will have the same speakers and information tonight! Join us at EC tonight for a light supper (for your whole family) starting at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. We will have childcare available as well! if you are interested in coming tonight, and you HAVE NOT sent in your reservation, please contact your FSS as soon as possible!!!

Thank you for your interest in learning more about the health aspect of Early Childhood.  Hear from medical professionals in our community and have a say in what Early Childhood will be looking at in the future when dealing with health issues and your children.

The Health Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

There will be NO Classes (all students) at Early Childhood this Friday, April 7th, 2017, so that our students (who are age eligible) can attend kindergarten roundup.
(Please see the schedule below, and pay special attention to the different dates/times)

The Quincy School District will host a series of "kindergarten roundups" at local grade schools for families with children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1.

Parents should attend the roundup with their child at the primary school in the district in which they live.

If you do not know the school district boundary, please call the Transportation Department at 217-224-5910.

The roundups give parents and children a chance to visit the school the youngster will attend next fall. They will meet staff members and receive information about school policies and requirements for physicals and immunizations.

Roundups will be held at the following times and locations:

If parents of 5-year-old children have not made contact with a school, they should do so as soon as possible.

Mr. Webb (QPS Superintendent- or as one spunky 4 yr old said "you are the guy who is the boss of all the schools!") came to visit EVERY classroom on Monday!

Let's just say Mr. Webb was talked into some songs, cookies and play-dough. Then throw in a few high-fives and blind slide hugs- as well as talking like a parrot and I would he had a typical day at the Quincy Early Childhood Center!

Happy Bear is coming back to Early Childhood on wednesday and Thursday (Feb 15th and 16th)

Happy Bear is part of the P.S. It’s My Body! program from Advocacy Network for Children, a child abuse prevention center that serves Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, McDonough, Morgan, Pike, Schuyler, and Scott Counties. A trained Advocacy Network staff member will present the program, which will discuss recognizing welcome and unwelcome touches, which parts of the body are private, using resistance skills (say “No,” move away), and identifying trusted adults to tell about inappropriate touches.  The play incorporates humor and audience participation to allow children to teach Happy Bear about personal safety.

If you are interested in having your child screened for our program or have any other questions, please call (217)228-7121 or stop by and see us at 401 South 8th Street.

Please ensure that you give your bus 5-10 minutes before, and after the scheduled time. We do everything we can to ensure that the pick-up/drop-off time is correct, but the beginning year is difficult due to new routes, pictures, etc.

If you have any questions about busing, schedules, teachers, or anything, please call us at 228-7121!

If you are new to our program or visiting our website, please check out the ENROLLMENT and HEALTH REQUIREMENTS tab on the left to learn more about our program. You can also review some of our wonderful activities by clicking on the PARENT ENGAGEMENT tab.

We look forward to seeing you this year!
